The Weapon and Target
The epee is the modified version of the rapier but it still carries the feel of the original rapier.  The epee is
the original dueling weapon.   Like the foil, it is a thrusting weapon only.
However, unlike the foil the target area is the entire body from the top of the head to the toes on your
feet.  The expanded target area gives the game an added dimension that the fencer needs to prepare for.

Epee
The main diffence between Epee and the other weapons
of fencing is the absense of the rule called 'right of way.'
This means that if both fencers touch each other at the
same time both opponents are awarded a touch.
Because right of way is no longer an issue, and the whole
body is target area, epee fencers tend to be more
cautious.  Height is definitly an advantage in this sport.
Many touches are gained on the areas of the body that
are closer to the opposing fencer.  Wrist and arm
touches are very common.
