For Beginners
Fencing is a sport, and as with any sport you have a method at getting
points, a playing area, and rules regarding how and when you can score
points.
In Fencing, the object of the game is to score touches on your opponent,
while avoiding being touched.
Bouts (Matches) are fenced to 5 or 15 touches, on the playing area called
the piste or strip. It is 2 meters wide and 18 meters long. Players move up
and down this area durring the game. The director (referee) starts and
stops the bout and awards touches to players.
Electric Fencing
To avoid confusion, electronic scoring machines were developed to
determine good touches. On the end of an electric foil or epee is a button.
When you depress that button, by hitting your opponent, the scoring
machine lights up, signifying a good touch.
There are three weapons in fencing, each weapon is played differently because they each have different rules that you play by.
